Focus

Poor air quality accounts for 1 in 10 deaths and is the #1 environmental risk to human health (W.H.O.).

As we spend 95% of our time indoors, we are constantly breathing in low doses of poison off-gassing from building materials and furniture. Being in a typical indoor space is equivalent to breathing in roughly half a cigarette per day worth of toxic gas.

Purifying indoor air is thus a massive leverage point on human health and is the current focus of BIOM.

Technology

BIOM's devices combine modern air filtration techniques with the natural “biotechnology” of the forest floor to capture and recycle contaminants via a diverse consortia of plant-associated microbes.

At the same time, plant leaves capture CO₂ and produce O₂. In this way, BIOM's devices are not just air purifiers but fresh air generators.

Team

BIOM was founded by Will Pepi, PhD and launched out of the Center for Architecture Science and Ecology (CASE) in Brooklyn, NY.

Along the way, BIOM has partnered with numerous world-class organizations.
